The phone rang at 6 am. In another life, Ryan would have leapt from bed and grabbed the receiver in under a second. Not so much anymore. No reason anyway. It's someone from the school district, again. Last week the caller announced, "due to an uncertain forecast...", then school was canceled and we had a beautiful sunshine-y day. And maybe 24 flakes of snow. When the phone rang Tuesday I just rolled over and put a pillow over my head, but not before I heard her say something about no school and not having a crystal ball. (I think maybe they are getting some slack.) At least this time it actually snowed. About 6 inches. I'm ready to move further south.
I feel like a shut-in. I can count on one finger the number of times I have actually gotten dressed and left the house this week.
The kids are feeling it too. I know because my ears are starting to hurt from all the whining and arguing.
Would you believe that our television broke. Just this week. You can watch the TV without sound, or you can listen to a dvd without a picture. Go figure.

We have also enjoyed a "tea party" complete with cherry kool-aid, (because being cooped up and on a sugar high is so much more exciting)in our fancy glasses, and saltines topped with peanut butter and toothpicks sticking out the top.
We've made birthday cards and had pretend birthday parties. We've done play dough and painting. We've raced cars, dressed baby dolls(over and over and over), learned "Twinkle, Twinkle" on the keyboard, and "decorated" homemade pizza. We ate leftovers by candlelight and made the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies ever.
So, it hasn't been all bad. But really, I am ready to get out of dodge. Especially because our house is currently torn to pieces.
Today the sun was shining. That makes me hopeful!
I think tomorrow I'll get dressed. And if nothing else, at least walk up to the mailbox.

We have felt the same way! We have done every craft imaginable but I didnt even think to have a pretend Birthday Party how fun! I think we have made enough cookies to feed a few armys over the past 2 months. And Gage is now addicted to PBS kids Mr. Rogers little movies on how to make crayons, balls, shoes etc. I had him get on the Eliptical a few times to get some energy out.(thats when you know you have ran out of ideas):) Summer cant come fast enough.
It sounds like my life, only I'm not near as fun as you:) You'll be happy to know that today was the first time I got ready this week. Hang in there. Spring is coming, I just know it!
NO worries... there's always saturday school to make us feel better!! We were only out two days this week... the second one I absolutely didn't understand.
I keep hearing and seeing from Pat you guys are getting dumped on with snow this year. I can't believe it! (I lived in NC my whole life basically and never saw that many snowfalls for the state in a single winter).
I hope it warms up soon! And I guess I shouldn't tell you what the temp is outside here right now...you might get jealous. ;) *hugs*

this sounds like our house! between snow and recovering from surgery, the house is a wreck, we have no clean dishes and Mr. Pants is TV'd out.
have you built a fort yet? that's the current favorite activity--blankets tucked and propped and clothespinned to make a roof, lots of pillows and blankets.
i'm totally stealing your pretend birthday idea. we can make a cake and cake always makes everything better-ish.

Your mornings sound very similar to mine. I was telling Larry about her crystal ball comment & the "I know this is not what you want to hear this morning," that she said yesterday. Yes, we are ready for NO MORE SNOW!
Your post makes me grateful that it's only snowed 3 or 4 times here. It also makes me grateful that the snow we've had has disappeared within about 24hrs.

I say move back to IDAHO where we function with the snow or we would be cooped up for 6 months of the year!! no snow days here from school. Avery may be going to school year round this year to make up for it.
Good thing Miss Avery has such a great imagination or you would all be climbing the walls.

Yes, AMEN is right! I am SO ready for the snow to stop! And getting up this morning (a SATURDAY) and sending the kids to school was exhausting. But hey, Steve and I (and Carolyn) are going out to eat right now!
The comment I liked from the phone calls this week was when she said to remember that the decision [to close schools] is based on what the roads are like "when the busses are running." It really does sound like they are getting some complaints!
Destinee, I agree with everyone else about your ideas. What a way to keep your kids entertained! ( We mainly read all week.) Maybe you can't claim 'creativity,' but is it quite remarkable that you remember--and DO--so many fun things. Kudos to you!
Did I mention how quickly it all passes and you'll want it back? Trust me on this.
