Gap teeth and little rewards (thankyou blogher for title)

I just wanted to give an update from the last entry. Now, where to start?

Avery lost her tooth on Sunday!

So we ran outside for a picture to blog. And then we sat down for lunch and her other wiggly tooth was all over the place. She ran to the bathroom and came back with a bigger gap than I had remembered.

She had lost another tooth! Only this one was really lost.

Not just from it's home inside her mouth. But actually, truly (gulp),lost.

I don't do the whole wiggly, bloody, teeth losing thing very well as it is and now her tooth was actually missing? I retraced her steps from bathroom to bathroom frantically scanning the floor with my eyes, bending occasionally to pick up what I thought would save the day but,upon closer examination, found instead a dried cheese stick crumb and then later a piece of a cracker. Avery was hysterical at this point and I was praying that Brittain, aka she-who-eats-everything-off-the-floor, would not find the tooth first. Uuugh! We finally surrendered to the fact that the tooth was never going to be found. I tell myself that it got flushed down the toilet with some of the toilet paper she had stuffed in the gap. (I really do not want to stumble across that tooth in the future.) But how to calm Avery down? Then my brilliant husband came up with the idea of printing the picture where only one tooth was missing so the tooth fairy could clearly see that she had lost not one but two teeth. He convinced her it would work. It did.

Now on to my other update. Knock on wood. Mason has been accident free for 2 days. That in itself is a miracle. But more than that, he has told me every single time he's needed to use the bathroom. Every single time, folks. What worked? We revamped his reward program. It was as follows:
pee= sticker
poo= chocolate (matchbox car when available)
The new and improved program:
pee= chocolate
poo= chocolate
zero accidents= 1 matchbox car per day.
It has been working like a charm.

Does that make me a bad mother offering my kid a small piece of chocolate every time he uses the bathroom? Maybe. Am I on my hands and knees cleaning up a puddle of pee? Nope. Can I live with that? Definately!
I realize it's only been 2 days but on the other hand, IT'S BEEN TWO DAYS!!! (Hope posting this doesn't jinx us somehow.)

Good night!

Post Edit: Can I just tell you what a dope I can be? While doing my nightly blog reading I noticed that one of the blogs on Blogher (see my left hand sidebar) rotation was titled "Gap teeth and little rewards". I felt compelled to check it out because I am living a parallel life with all the title suggested. So imagine the "duh" smile it brought to my face when I clicked the link and was brought back to my very own blog. Go figure. (And I really like that title Blogher. Thankyou.)

Avery could have swallowed her tooth too....there's a thought. I had a friend who swallowed her tooth one night while she was sleeping. Anywho, hopefully showing Sarah this post will be good. Her top two teeth are very wiggly but she is scared to wiggle them because she's convinced it is going to hurt. But everynight at dinner we have to hear how her teeth are wiggly and she can't eat. Congrats on Mason! No, that does not make you a bad mom. I would be the bad mom who gets so tired of telling her 2 year old no, that she finally just gives in and lets him raid her chocolate drawer....at 8 o clock at night!

Yuck about the swallowing! She actually had it in a tissue in her hand at one point so I won't have to think about that.

Ryan's idea is brilliant... I can just imagine her distress at thinking the tooth fairy might not know it was TWO teeth!!

Love the pictures... she wears toothlessness well. :)

And I think potty training is the one time we have free reign when it comes to bribing our children....

I think the chocolate idea is fine. Girl Scout cookies worked for Jaiden. He was so excited to go to the bathroom at the thought of a cookie and then after a couple of days he was going potty and had forgotten all about the cookies. Now I find myself bribing him into taking naps again (he stopped for awhile) with promises of playing the Wii. I say whatever works to give you some sanity.

Whew! I was praying that she didn't swallow it...good to know...b/c I was about to say, What if? Eek! How neat that Ryan came up with a solution.

I'm so glad that Mason has been accident free. And I'm with the other moms...whatever works to go potty. Done. ;)

Love your photos. Did you take classes in college or just play around with photography?
Anyway, like the new potty training system. Might have to try it. Is he telling you or you taking him every so often?

I don't think I'm looking forward to the loose tooth business. And, I say whatever works with the potty training business. I know I'm not looking forward to potty training again. Good luck!

I love,love,love the toothless grin!!! I took tons of pic's of Jakes missing teeth...I even spent a FHE painting his face like a Jake-o-lantern (get it Jack..Jake..) at Halloween and took pic's. Jakes second missing top tooth is just coming through now...I am a little sad but excited to see the grown up teeth-too big for your little mouth- grin too! I seriously want you to take our family picture at some point...gotta save up some $ first...I will let you know when.

Mmm... girl scout cookies!
Thanks for the comments everyone!

Julie- I took a few photography classes in HS and college. Then I worked at a portrait studio for a couple of years. I started my own business recently but it is very part-time, at least while the kiddos are small.
Mason has been telling me he needs to go ever since implementing the new "reward program"!
Carrie, I'd love to take pictures of your family. Are things picking up at all for ya'll?

Avery is looking so grown up! Good thinking on Ryan's part- and good thing you were on the photo thing just in time!

Bribery totally works, I am okay with it, and I don't want to be cleaning up pee either- go with what works, but give it a deadline I guess. If it goes on to 16 your going to have to be giving him a real car. LOL

What cute kids you have. I am so glad you got that "lost" tooth figured out. My sis- Sheri had to BE the tooth fairy for her friends daughter when she LOST hers. She changed her answering machine to an appropriate "if you lost your tooth" message so she could leave the tooth fairy a message. Worked like a charm. Just this last week she was the Easter Bunny for my little girl. So if you need someone- Sheri is pretty good.

Wow Avery, congratulations! You have an adorable little toothless smile! Way to go on the potty training, it's just around the corner for us as well, so thanks for the great ideas! I'm all about going with what ever works!
